Karen Culi

Karen Cantor Culi is a Filipino-American singer-songwriter, musician, actress, and model. She was born in southeast Washington D.C. and raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland. At an early age, Karen always had an interest in music. She began with classical piano lessons at age 8, studying under John E. McDaniel, learning rhythmic pieces and duets to perform at local recitals. She continued her sessions with Mr. Daniels until the age of 12 . With a clear attraction to the guitar, she taught herself everything she could about the instrument with the goal of eventually writing and singing and her own songs.

By the age of 15, Karen started performing at coffee shops and venues dedicated to open mics. After playing open mics with her acoustic guitar for several years, Karen decided to form a band. While searching for bandmates, Karen headed for the studio to record an EP that was never released digitally. Several pressings of Not A Mistake EP ended up being scrapped and Karen was back to square one.

Following events that left her bedridden and unable to walk as well as perform, Karen put her guitar down to gain her strength. After several years of physical therapy and procedures, Karen bought a used drum set and low end computer to learn how to produce as well as play the drums.

Karen is known for her electrifying stage presence and a big voice to match. She has performed at venues in the Washington D.C. area such as: Rock n Roll Hotel, The Velvet Lounge, Heaven & Hell, The Dew Drop Inn, and Jammin’ Java, as well as local festivals, hospitals, and summer camps.

Karen Culi is here to rock and release timeless music for the world to hear.
